I have been sent the following email enquiring if any NZSGB members have any letters written by Joseph Davies from Auckland around 1863. If you have any information could you please make a posting on this thread or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
The email is given below:
"I am currently researching correspondence and the life of Joseph Davies (sometimes Davis) of Auckland and formerly of Gelligare (Gelligaer) Wales and Sydney Australia.
Davies was a criminal who was transported to Australia in 1824 and wrote a letter to his wife from NSW in 1824. He subsequently was pardoned and in 1845 married Isabella Sinclair in Sydney. Sometime after that date he went to Auckland and wrote a letter in 1863 to his daughter back in Wales.
There was further correspondence to his daughter prior to 1863 (as implied in the 1863 letter) and I am wondering if any of you members own any of these letters, written by Joseph Davies. Such letters may also be signed by Isabella Davies
If you are aware of anyone who can help me with information I would be grateful for your assistance.
