C5 (Scott) - Trans-Tasman first flight cover
I am looking at a supposed first flight cover on the net. It carries the usual February 17, 1934 Aukland post mark but the 7 pence blue trans-tasman stamp has a postmark dated 18 January 34. Looks like the place in that postmark is Wellington. It also carries 2 pence in Australian postage which covers the ocean trip back to NZ, typical of what your site calls the boomerang covers. Any idea why the NZ stamp itself carries that 18 January 34 postmark? Could that be the day it was originally mailed to some central gathering point for all mail going on the 17 Feb 34 flight? Thanks for your input.
