Hello everyone,
I have a query regarding the watermark of the above stamp (1/2d Newspaper stamp).  According to Gibbons Catalogue this stamp only comes in "Normal", "Inverted" or "Reversed".  As you can see I have it both Inverted and Reversed.  Is this a slip up on the Catalogue or do I have a rarety.

Many thanks
Zealander

Re: 1/2d Newspaper Stamp

Hi Zealander

Even in the Campbell Paterson catalogue it does not list this item. Suggest that you email the scan to Andrew Dolphin at Campbell Paterson for his opinion. If it proves to be rare certification would be a good idea. Tell us how you get on.

Best of Luck

KaKa.

Re: 1/2d Newspaper Stamp

Hi Zealander

I think on reflection that it took them a couple of weeks to respond to my email. I will take a look in Vol 1 Postage stamps of New Zealand to see if this error has been seen before and get back to you.

Kind Regards

kaka

Re: 1/2d Newspaper Stamp

That is very kind of you Kaka.  That catalogue you mentioned "The Postage Stamps of NZ".  Can I buy it anywhere.  Could you let me have the ISBN No.?
Many thanks for all the information.

Re: 1/2d Newspaper Stamp

Hi Zealander

The Postage Stamps of New Zealand Vol: 1 to 8. Printed by the Royal Philatelic Society of New Zealand. Try this link : http://www.rpsnz.org.nz/our-writings/out-of-print.html. Mostly out of Print as they had limited Print runs. However they do turn up from time to time at stamp auctions like Mowbrays: http://www.mowbrays.co.nz/SITE_Default/SITE_mowbray_stamps/

If Purchasing make sure that they have:

Vol: 1 Ensure the FFQ plates are included.
Vol: 2 Ensure the FFQ colour plates are inside.

If they don't have these you will get them cheaper. Vol 1 is hard to get in nice condition be prepared to spend £200 - £300!!! The other editions are cheaper however volume 1 does include most of the information from the : 1913 The History of New Zealand Stamps.

Best Regards

Re: 1/2d Newspaper Stamp

1st class information, Kaka.  However at that price they are out of my league.
Guess what......I have found another stamp (1d Universal - SG280) with a reversed watermark, again the catalogues only mention 280y (inverted and reversed).  I have sent a scan of this one to Roly in NZ, so hope to get an answer soon - still nothing from CP.

Thanks for the links, I will see what they bring.

Many thanks
Martin
