The Marotiri Island Pigeon Gram stamps come as a 1/- blue Great Barrier Island Pigeon Gram stamp overprinted with "Marotiri Pigeongram" and as a 1/- red Marotiri Island Pigeon Gram stamp, both issued in 1899. Strangely, in The New Zealand Stamp Album, Senior Edition, produced by Seven Seas Stamps, both are labelled "1/- Blue". Furthermore, on StampBoards, there is a post stating "A copper mine was also serviced by pigeon "mail" in 1899 & two distinctly different "stamps" were produced. The red one illustrated is the only affordable one, because the larger blue one retails at $8,500 - if you can ever find one for sale" (stampmogul Re: New Zealand Stamps Here! Siegel Auction Galleries, 20th December 2002). Is there any such stamp? Thanks. Moa

Re: Pigeon Post
Sorry no one has picked up on this post earlier.
I have had a look at Stampmoguls post on Stampboards and I'm not totally sure what he is referring to.
Checking CPs catalogue (section VP) there is reference to two stamps issued for the Marotiri Copper mines. One is the 1/- red illustrated on the thread on Stampboards and the other is a 1/- green-blue Barrier Island stamp overprinted "MAROTIRI" Pigeongram in black. The stamp, as illustrated, looks to be the same size. The CP cat value (1999 revision) is $7000 and $10500 respectively for green-blue and red (used condition).
So in conclusion I am not aware of any other (larger) stamp. Have you tried e-mailing Stampmogul via the Stampboards site?

Re: Pigeon Post
Thanks very much for your kind response. I might have to contact stampmogul through StampBoards. I have another question relating to Pigeon Posts. "The Oded Eliashar Award-Winning Collection of Worldwide Pigeon Post Mail" was scheduled for auction on Friday 20th December 2002 through Robert A. Siegel Auction Galleries, New York (Sale 854). However, I note from Prestige Philately's "The Eighth International Rarities Auction" on 10th April 2010 that "The sale of Oded Eliashar's collection in New York in 2002 was cancelled". It seems that some of Oded Eliashar's collection appeared in the Prestige Philately auction. Does anyone have any information as to why the 2002 auction was cancelled? Also, what happened to the other material that did not go through Prestige Philately. Thanks very much, with kind regards, Moa
